Unless you’re on a high-stakes mission and need every tactical advantage possible, being seen is a big part of working in public safety. While this sometimes has to do with maintaining a visible presence, safety is more often the primary concern. Officers who work in nighttime conditions or near roadways are naturally less visible to passerby, reducing available reaction time and increasing the risk of accidents. Blauer’s hi-vis public safety collection uses several technologies and methods to improve visibility for responders.
Bright Clothing for All Conditions
Nearly all Blauer high-visibility uniforms and accessories use our B.BRIGHT® technology for the best visibility on the job. This can include design attributes such as color-blocking and body-silhouetting to more resemble the natural human form. The fluorescent fabric dye in each B.BRIGHT garment is UV-activated, meaning it will have a reflective glow even on cloudy days and other situations when UV light is present but sunlight is not. Blauer was also the first to add black sections and stripes to contrast the yellow for better visibility in bright sunlight.
Hi-Vis Apparel with Retroreflective Striping
Retroreflective material has revolutionized high-visibility responder apparel. This special sheeting is filled with glass beads that reflect the illumination from vehicle headlights, flashlights or streetlights back to the original light source. This increases nighttime visibility and gives motorists more time to react even when traveling at higher speeds. Black “crosswalk striping” helps refract the reflection for an even greater effect. We use ScotchLite™, Oralite® or IllumiNITE™ retroreflective striping and trim on all of our ANSI-approved hi-vis safety products.
