First responders often find themselves working in mild precipitation or on tactical missions near high-moisture areas. While full waterproof rainwear is often overkill in these situations, some weather protection can make a huge difference. Blauer manufactures uniform shirts, pants, jackets, sweaters and other apparel that offers moderate water and wind resistance for “weird” weather. This transitional and tactical apparel will prepare you for when conditions take a turn from the ideal.

Water-Resistant Public Safety Apparel

Blauer categorizes water resistant garments as ones that can stand up to a quick burst of rain or a light drizzle. This is done by using tightly-woven fabrics and often by treating them with a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) chemical finish. This treatment also prevents the outer layer from getting saturated so the fabric will retain its durability. Water resistance is most often seen in lightweight jackets, but you can also find water-repellent tactical uniforms and medical uniforms. Our water-resistant apparel retains its effectiveness for 25-30 wash cycles depending on job use and detergents (although heat treatment can sometimes reinvigorate a DWR finish).

Windbreaker Clothing for Responders

Different companies consider different garments to be wind-resistant, but at Blauer, it means fabrics can withstand winds up to 15 MPH. We use the Frazier Air Permeability Test to determine whether apparel and accessories meet this standard. The process for making public safety gear wind-resistant is similar to making them water-resistant. Technologies we use include Windstopper®, a sister fabric membrane to Gore-Tex® that provides the same wind resistance and breathability without its waterproof qualities. Some of our fleece jackets are made of Polartec® Wind Pro® fabric that has up to four times as much wind resistance as regular fleece.

Quality Police, Fire & EMS Clothing

Nearly every public safety position requires working outside at some point, and you need to be prepared for unpleasant weather. Blauer technologies for water and wind resistance are key to making our apparel capable of handling the tough conditions of emergency work.
