Reflective material is one of the leading technologies in use today by public safety officers, industrial workers and consumers who need to be seen. Visibility is vital for nearly everyone who’s outdoors, especially when there’s a lack of daylight due to inclement weather or nighttime shifts. Retroreflective trim, striping and lining have been shown to be bright and durable in a variety of real-world scenarios. Blauer offers a large selection of high-visibility apparel and turnout responder gear that has reflective trim. Roadway workers, traffic control operators and bicycle patrolmen are just some of the public safety officers who can benefit from reflective material.
How Reflective Material Works
Reflective material is a special type of high-visibility material that uses retro-reflection to heighten visibility. Tightly-bunched glass beads or prisms concentrate the light from vehicle headlights or search spotlights and reflect it directly back to the source without scattering. This makes a person or object visible at up to 100 yards or more even in darkness. The material can take the form of prismatic tape, reflective fabric or adhesive film depending on the industry. Since it is activated by a light source, it is generally only effective at night. As such, it is usually added to a garment made with UV-activated fluorescent dye for when you need daytime visibility as well.
Public Safety Apparel with Reflective Trim
All Blauer hi-vis uniforms and outerwear, along with many of our public safety vests, use high-contrast reflective striping to enhance nighttime and roadway clarity. We utilize the technology in performance polo shirts, hi-vis rainwear, cold weather jackets, police baseball caps, winter gloves and other apparel and accessories that are often used in low-light or no-light conditions. We also have tactical shirts, uniform pants and jackets with deployable reflective trim in the cuffs or pockets that can be turned out at night for extra visibility. Browse our selection of reflective products if you need high-visibility first responder apparel from an industry authority.
