EMTs, paramedics and other emergency medical responders frequently find themselves exposed to blood and bodily fluids. If they come into contact with these substances, either directly or because they seep through clothing, these professionals face great risk of contracting bacteria and diseases. Pathogen-resistant public safety apparel from Blauer will prevent these harmful microbes from reaching your skin. We engineer clothing that meets or exceeds national standards so you can treat patients with confidence.

Body Fluid Protection Standards

NFPA 1999 and ASTM F1671 are the two most commonly used standards for evaluating a fabric’s ability to protect against bodily fluid contact or exposure. Both codes set down minimum guidelines for resistance to pathogens that are borne via blood or bodily exposure. However, NFPA 1999 is more widely accepted, as it also requires limited protection from certain chemicals and CBRNE agents. Clothing approved for either standard can be worn by EMS professionals, while NFPA 1999 has additional uses for law enforcement officers and firefighters.

Pathogen-Resistant Apparel Technology

CrossTech® is the fabric most frequently employed by Blauer for protective anti-pathogen clothing. This material made by GORE® has a multi-layer barrier that is certified to resist penetration by both airborne and liquid-borne pathogens, including those from bodily fluids, blood and five common accident scene chemicals. Certain garments, such as our frisk gloves, have a micro-foam coating that provides limited bodily fluid protection. Tactical boots with our B.DRY® waterproof membrane also meet ASTM F1671 standards.

Protective Apparel for Medical Responders

Blauer has a line of pathogen-resistant emergency response apparel that is aimed at paramedics who are constantly in harm’s way. You’ll find several styles of EMS jackets, such as public safety parkas and hi-vis protective jackets, along with outerwear pants, rain hoods and industrial safety boots. The technology used to craft this apparel also makes it waterproof and breathable as well, meaning you’ll be more comfortable as well as safer. Blauer has been making trusted EMS apparel since 1936 and will help you find options to prevent the spread of viruses or microbes.
