NFPA 1999

Standard for Protective Clothing for Emergency Medical Operations

In 1992, the National Fire Protection Association introduced the NFPA 1999 standard to protect first responders and emergency medical professionals from human blood and body fluids at accident scenes and during patient transport. The standard specifies minimum requirements for the design, performance, testing, and certification of items of protective clothing including outer-garments, footwear, gloves, and face shielding devices for protection from blood/liquid-borne pathogens.

NFPA 1999 certified products are considered Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by the federal government and are fully reimbursable by many grants available to public safety agencies.

CrossTechBlauer manufactures a broad range of NFPA 1999 certified outerwear and rainwear. Look for the CROSSTECH® logo  to quickly identify which of our products are NFPA 1999 certified and eligible for grant funding.
